Development Updates

Fx 2.0.0.16 / Fx 3.0.1 / TB 2.0.0.16

On track for shipping Firefox 2.0.0.16 tomorrow afternoon. Please let us know if there is any reason not to.

Also on track for shipping Firefox 3.0.1 Wednesday afternoon. We're seeing issues with a few extensions which aren't using a proper maxversion (i.e. "3.0" instead of "3.0.*"). Polvi's working with extension developers to get them updated.

Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 is almost ready for the beta channel. QA is aiming for completion and beta channel this coming Wednesday, likely before Firefox 3.0.1 ships.

TB 3

  • 3.0a2 frozen; we _think_ we're ready to cut a branch, but our Mac builds are having issues, and we still need one to verify. Hopefully we'll get that sorted out today.

Deb's putting together a comprehensive list of weekly/regular public project meetings and other events. Wiki page for it is here: http://wiki.mozilla.org/Community_Calendar . When Deb sorts out how/where to do it, the list will also (hopefully) be published as a public shared calendar that folks can subscribe to. Please check the wiki page and make changes/additions as necessary.
New about-mozilla weblog!
We're introducing a new weblog to the Mozillaverse that is a companion to the about:mozilla newsletter. Unsurprisingly, it's called the about:mozilla weblog. It is here: http://blog.mozilla.com/about_mozilla/
So, how are the newsletter and weblog related? Essentially, anything that ends up in the newsletter will be on the weblog first, but not everything on the weblog will end up in the newsletter. So, the weblog is a slightly higher-volume stream of news that is updated (more or less) daily, and the newsletter is a weekly publication of the week's highlights from the weblog. Deb will be blogging about this in more detail shortly.
Selectors API Test Suite
John constructed a comprehensive W3C Selectors API test suite to be used by the various browser vendors (includes about 4200 tests). It's currently being used by Mozilla, WebKit, and Opera to test their individual implementations. Our implementation is currently about 91% passing and is slated for a Gecko 1.9.1 introduction.
Summit video project
As part of the ongoing experiment with Air Mozilla Live and Mozilla videos, Asa is developing a Summit video project that will capture highlights from Mozilla's long recent and distant past. The format will be a dedicated room with A/V equipment and individuals or small groups talking about key Mozilla events. If you're going to be attending the Summit, please start thinking about the piece of Mozilla history that you'd like to share.
MDC Deki transition
This is ongoing still, but we should be there very shortly. There's a new build of Deki to pull that fixes some issues, and a new skin update is due today or tomorrow. Feedback on the test server has been good (and, where not so good, has been helpful).

Webdev, Add-ons, AMO

  • AMO maintenance release, v3.4.5 - blog announcement
  • Verbatim - l10n application prep for Summit, design work started
  • spreadfirefox.com - Security updates, issue with affiliates page that had to be rolled back, looking into what happened this week.
  • Socorro - processor issues fixed, priority reports delay down to 20-30 minutes. Issues were caused by a combination of an unexpectedly high volume of reports (due to ineffective throttling) and delays due to use of the NFS for crash dump storage. morgamic in town this week (Tues-Thurs) to plan roadmap and strategy.   • SUMO was updated successfully last week (0.6 TM).
  • Graph Server - 0.3 milestone freeze is Wednesday (see bug list) also see the project wiki for more info.
  • Worked with Harvey and Tiffney on the PriorArt project see wiki and see diagrams/schema
  • New AMO team member, Rey Bango (rey at mozilla.com) - will be working with AMO Developers and AMO Editors to expand the community, create tools and make them successful.

L10n

  • Shout out to Ogi in Bulgaria who is working to launch Fx3-bg in 3.0.x
  • Expecting to land mailto for Gmail for all and Hotmail across opted-in locales for 3.0.2, further details are available in Discussion group
  • L10n planning for Q3 and beyond from Paris: draft goals, launching Fennec for L10n (summit session planned), and http://www.mozilla.org/community/

Foundation Updates

  • Legal issues
    • Gerv worked on a variety of licensing issues involving software to be used in the context of the Mozilla project.
  • Grants and related activities
    • Gerv contacted the various people involved in Google Summer of Code projects related to Mozilla in order to get current status reports.
    • The Mozilla Foundation is funding a new project by Eitan Isaacson to do comparison testing of accessibility support for Firefox and other browsers.
  • CAs and related issues
    • Frank gave preliminary approval for two requests from GlobalSign (bugs 406794 and406796) and started the second (and last) public comment period.
  • Conferences
    • Zak continued working on the proposed FOSSCoach event at OSCON and related activities, including drafting the schedule and helping to orient the event coaches and participants.
  • Upcoming activities
    • David, Gerv, and Zak will be attending OSCON (July 21-25 in Portland OR) and the Firefox Summit (July 29-31 in Whistler BC).
    • Frank will be attending the Firefox Summit (but not OSCON).
