Thunderbird 10.0 issues

Not so minor

(not in order)

  1. LDAP fails due to LDAP Server SSL error (i.e. this is not a Thunderbird or Firefox bug!), WORKAROUND - upgrade LDAP server with SSL fix e.g. [bug 723551] - Please use the tb10sslproblem tag for these issues in GS - Unfortunately update to Kerio Connect 7.3.1 patch 2 DID NOT fix the LDAPS issues with TB 10.0 and Kerio Connect.
  2. IMAP SSL/TLS Server don't work after TB9->TB10 upgrade due to IMAP servers that haven't fixed an old SSL bug that TB10/FF10 fixed (similar issue to the LDAP issue in bug 723551); So far this SSL bug has only manifested itself in IceWarp aka Merk mail servers and might be an IceWarp 10.3.5-only issue so a support ticket was filed with Merk :[GS1]; [bug 723109] which apparently is a dup of: bug 702111; WORKAROUND: "create a batch file that sets NSS_SSL_CBC_RANDOM_IV=0 and then runs Thunderbird"; Real Solution: [bug 723109#c32] ; [bug 702111] ; Please use the tb10sslproblem tag for these issues in GS
  3. Ask Updater and Ask Toolbar run while Thunderbird is running and take up excessive CPU: Workaround: uninstall ASK Updater and ASK Toolbar', [GS] - NOT a Thunderbird problem

Minor issues or issues fixed in TB 11 or future release

See Thunderbird 11 User Changes Page

(not in order, numbered only for convenience; minor = no dataloss or non dataloss mac and linux problems since only 5% or less of TB users are mac or linux)

  1. Crash when trying to import from Outlook [GS] [bug 723105] - fixed in TB 10.0.1
  2. Email attachment error when sending because html signatures with tel:, skype:, callto: and other non standard protocols and relative links no longer work due to stricter checking: WORKAROUND: delete non standard protocols from your HTML signatures and change all relative links to file:/// links - [GS1], [GS2] - Please tag any other topics "tb10signature" - Fixed in TB 11 in bug 714825
  3. Not all Attachments are shown by Thunderbird when those attachments are sent in a non standard way by Outlook and other email clients - [reopened bug 674473 after a partial fix in TB8] - WORKAROUND: Show All Body Parts Add-on until we get a real code fix; given the nature of MIME and the MIME code, this is not a trivial problem to fix - This has been a problem since Thunderbird 5; Rest of the fix is in TB 11 i.e. Make MIME parts in a multipart/related context that are not referred to or cannot be displayed inline available as attachments again (MS's mailer, mail system of some companies, still continues to send multipart/related mail to send broken non standards compliant email with PDF file etc. in it)- [bug 674473] - fixed i.e. worked around Outlook's non compliance with standards in TB 11 and ESR 10.0.3

Add-on Issues

The following is an incomplete list of add-ons that have issues in Thunderbird 10. Please add to this list add-ons that have issues and if you find an add-on has been updated and works with Thunderbird, please strike it out using <del></del>

(not in order,numbered for convenience)

  1. MoreLayouts 2.2 is broken, apparently MoreLayouts 2.3 fixes the problem -[GS1]
  2. Users don't get upgraded to Lightning 1.2 when they upgrade to Thunderbird 10 for some reason (from most likely to least likely:connectivity, anti-virus, bugs in TB or AMO?) - [GS1]. [Canonical topic, GS2], [GS3], [GS4], [GS5], [GS6], [GS7], [GS8], [GS9], [GS10] - Investigating whether this is a Lightning a bug, a bug in Thunderbird add-on upgrade process and whether this can be lessened using a screenshot by screenshot (a video might help too) tutorial on Lightning upgrades

Daily Support Reports

(selected dates starting the day after release day which will probably be February 1, 2012; can't do this for every day obviously :-) !)

  2. Lightning 1.2 is invisible (perhaps a Kaspersky issue?) - [GS1]
  3. Email attachment error when sending because html signatures with tel:, skype:, callto: and other non standard protocols and relative links no longer work due to stricter checking: WORKAROUND: delete non standard protocols from your HTML signatures and change all relative links to file:/// links [GS1], [GS2] - Please tag any other topics "tb10signature"

  2. IMAP SSL/TLS Server don't work after TB9->TB10 upgrade apparently it only affects ice warp aka Merk mail servers and might be an IceWarp 10.3.5-only issue so a support ticket was filed with Merk : GS: http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/imap_access_problem_after_upgrade_to_v_10 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=723109 apparently a dup of: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702111 WORKAROUND: "create a batch file that sets NSS_SSL_CBC_RANDOM_IV=0 and then runs Thunderbird" https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=723109#c32 Real Solution: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=723109#c32 , https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702111
