with regard to "Logging slows down Thunderbird quite a bit" -- 1. slows in what environments? 2. has it been benchmarked and profiled? 3. if there is a valid perf issue, are there alternative logging methods which have a better performance profile? (wrapping log in memory for example, bug 257942 ) wsm 09:04, 8 April 2008 (PDT)

I wish I could remember who said that, but I was collecting information from the #maildev IRC channel and it was noted several times that if logging was left on all the time it would considerably slow down thunderbird as well as create large files. This probably has a lot to do with what type of logging is done, if it's level 5 logging of all protocols or just level 3 logging of one protocol.
