• What is Rosetta Stone TOTALe?
  • Rosetta Stone TOTALe is a language learning software that works through a technique called Dynamic Immersion. Dynamic Immersion works through the same process as when you first learned a language, through matching pictures to sounds and words.

  • In order to complete the language learning course in Rosetta Stone TOTALe, a learning commitment is required of at least 30 minutes of practice per day for about 8 months.

With Advanced English for Business, employees develop advanced English skills that can be put to use immediately in day-to-day work activities, helping remove the internal language barriers that inhibit communication and productivity. With our solution:
    • Learners build business-critical English communication skills, including writing e-mails, giving presentations, and much more.
    • Learners tailor their experience based on individualized goals, maximizing motivation and engagement
    • Administrators can track and report on learner performance"

Active and Inactive Usage

• NOTE: Rosetta Stone no longer available
• For Rosetta Stone TOTALe, Active Usage means that a learner is on track to complete an entire language learning course in 8-10 months from the time they signed up. That usage amounts to at least 30 minutes of practice per day for about 8 months. Inactive Usage ' means that a learner has not used the resource for 60 days or more. Administrators will contact users 30 days before deactivating accounts with a WARNING message: "Your account has been inactive for 60 or more days. Your account will be deactivated in 30 days if inactivity persists during this 30 day WARNING period."
• For Advance English for Business, the learner must attend and participate in the curriculum assigned by this program. If an account is inactive for 30 days, the user will be notified to use the account or give up their seat.

Who can sign up

Mozilla paid and volunteer contributors who want to learn a language to help impact the success of the project by reducing language barriers.

• In 2015, Rosetta Stone was discontinued because of poor usage.
• In the 2014-2015 cycle there are only 100 licenses of the Rosetta Stone TOTALe program and 8 Advance English for Business are available. If demand and usage are high, we will reconsider purchasing more licenses.
• In the 2013-2014 cycle there were only 250 licenses of the Rosetta Stone TOTALe program available. 50 licenses were reserved for Mozilla Reps with the sign up process being first come, first serve.

• Paid Contributors sign up on Service Now.
  • 1. Go to category Software Request and click on Software Applications
  • 2. Go to category Other Applications and click Rosetta Stone
  • 3. Fill out fields for language learning.

• Volunteer Contributors file a bug under Community Tools.
  • 1. In the Component field select Rosetta Stone (should already be selected if clicking the link above).
  • 2. In cc line add: dianderson@mozilla.com
  • 3. In Summary line write License for Volunteer Contributor.
  • 4. In Description, indicate (a) interface language and (b) target language.

Waiting List

If Mozilla runs out of licenses, those seeking a license will be placed on a waiting list.

Rosetta Stone and Mozilla Learning Metrics

• For the 2014-2015 cycle, Mozilla has purchased 100 licenses of Rosetta Stone TOTALe language learning software. This limited amount is based on user metrics provided from the April 2013 - April 2014 cycle.
• For the 2013-2014 cycle, Mozilla has purchased 250 licenses of Rosetta Stone TOTALe language learning software. This limited amount is based on user metrics provided from the April 2012 - April 2013 cycle. 313 licenses were granted. 34 people were active users. 10 people completed 1 Level of language mastery.

Mobile Usage

From Rosetta Stone: We’re excited to announce Rosetta Stone’s “Rosetta COURSE” app is now available on Apple and Android tablets/smartphones! This app allows learners to access the Rosetta Course component of the online computer program from all of the following devices*: iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Nook HD, Kindle Fire, Android phones and tablets. *Note: Writing and Milestone activities currently unavailable.

The program will track the learner’s progress! Thus, progress made while using the Rosetta COURSE app will sync between devices, so you will be able to continue on the computer where you left off on your tablet/phone and vice versa. You can find more information about this app at Rosetta Mobile.

The Rosetta Stone “TOTALe Companion” app is also available for smartphones but is meant to be used as a supplemental program. Usage in this app does not sync to your reports so we normally recommend learners use the Rosetta Course app if an internet connection is available.

Community Contributions

Dashboard

• In the 2014-2015 Cycle, Rosetta Stone will be providing dashboards twice per quarter.
• In the 2013-2014 Cycle, Srikar Ananthula created the Rosetta Stone Dashboard to analyze the learning trends of Rosetta Stone users. Srikar was able to show us that the social learning tools of Rosetta Stone were underutilized. With tools like these, we are able to be proactive about getting the most out of our learning resources.
