QA Staff Meeting Notes Jan 05, 2011

New Hires

  • Matthew Brandt has accepted our offer and he will be starting Mon Jan 31 in WebQA.
    • Rebecca will be his Mozilla buddy
  • Ayan graduated, and now contracting for browser technologies QA. Focus on jetpack, crossweave, and fennec/firefox

Project Status

  • Overview (2 min brief update)

Desktop Firefox (Juan)

  • Fx4:
    • Beta 9 code freeze this Friday
    • Builds next Monday
    • Shipping Thursday, Jan 13
    • Start focusing on stability and regressions.
      • What areas are you most worried about?
        • Shipping with Linux WebGL enabled (Aaron)
        • Shipping with D2D on WIndows 64 enabled (Aaron)
        • Continued Mac crashiness with currently shipping Flash (Mac)
        • Sync blockers need testing. (bug 618403 Double bookmarks) for example is a highly reported problem.

Maintenance and Security (Al)

Firefox 3.5.17 / 3.6.13

Currently verifying fixes in nightly 1.9.1 and 1.9.2 builds.

    • Code freeze for non-blockers: 2011-01-11
    • Code freeze for blockers: 2011-01-17
    • Build #1 created: 2011-01-19
    • Build #1 available: 2011-01-20
    • QA testing starts: 2011-01-20
    • QA testing finishes: 2011-01-25

Browser Technologies (Tony)

  • Fennec (aakash)
    • 30 blockers still left for beta 4
  • Sync (tracy)
    • a couple dozen fixes have landed for beta9. Verifications are in progress.
    • No blockers for beta9, at this point. There are less then 20 Fx4 Sync blockers remaining. Everything has been pushed to betaN, the bulk of those are places dependent.
    • The Sync teams goal is to be completely done prior to the first Fx4 rc. But again they are reliant on the places team for fixes.
  • Test Pilot (tracy)
    • Tested and reported a couple of issues with jono's first stab at 1.1pre. Really just cosmetic work, nothing major in functionality has changed.
  • Jetpack (ayan)
    • SDK 1.0b2 plan to release at end of January.
    • Flightdeck 1.0a7 in process of release.
    • ETA for 1.0a7 - End of day today if everything goes well.
  • Firefox Home (tony)
    • 1.1 landed in app store 2 weeks ago
    • triaged 1.1.1 bugs, targeting 2nd week of january

WebQA (Stephen)

  • AMO

    • Demo room should be up on staging by the 14th of January

QA Services (Marcia)

  • Meetups
  • Germany/Europe
    • Starting end of January again - qa workshop in February in Munich. Also Ideas for Community Building/Events in planning
  • Crash Investigation
    • (Tomcat) Checking crashstats and topsite/crashtests
    • marcia continuing monitoring new trunk crashes and getting bugs on file. Last week I caught a few regressions that were targeted for B9.
  • Community Planning
    • marcia tracking possible Drumbeat event in San Diego. This might be a good first event to target for community building. The event currently does not have a fixed data.
  • Video Work
    • "Making Mozilla better" video is complete. Will be circulating it to the team for feedback.
    • Last week worked with Rainer on two other videos:
      • Edited footage of the QA presentation at the Summit. Have a rough cut of that
      • Edited footage of marcia's Bugzilla lightning talk at Summit. Need to add some screenshots to the video.
  • Tomcat
    • see above - also helping waverley with IT Issues (IRC/Litmus etc)
  • Accessibility:
    • Found that the new contentmodal alerts in FX4 aren't accessible: bug 622495, but a few corrections to the XUL markup should fix this easily, should just be on the radar.
    • Waiting for reviews on bug 498015, which is a bug that will fix a range of other bugs simultaneously when it lands, all of which are blockers for FX4. This is our TOP bug currently, blocking a few things also in my work since some content rendering is currently inaccurate.
    • Firefox Home 1.1 is looking good on the iPhone with VoiceOver.
    • Currently nothing scheduled ffrom our end for FX 3.6.13 and 3.5.17.

Test Automation (Henrik)

  • Mozmill
    • Mozmill 1.5.2: Targeted for Jan, 21st
    • Mozmill 2.0: Roadmap is live. Targeted for end of Q1/11
  • Projects
    • Mozmill Crowd
      • First alpha version (0.1) is targeted for today or tomorrow (1 remaining blocker)
      • Next alpha should follow as soon as possible (non-blocking process), which is needed for a planned testday
      • Henrik is working on a proposal for a talk/demo at FOSDEM 2011 in Brussels
    • Dashboard
    • Tests
      • Default branch test failures failures have been dwindling (see top-failures)
    • Triggered Update Testing
      • Proof of concept prototype works, cleaning up some runtime issues that appear to be environmental.
    • Shared Module Refactor
      • Prototype of the shared module library works, now adding representative tests from each section to flesh out control libraries.
