Feature Status Review
- Firefox 96 Release
- No known last minute feature slippage
- Firefox 97 Beta
- Colorways work remains challeged this week due to outstanding onboarding decisions. Although, the changes here are expected to be VERY lightweight so nothing of major concern.
- Several Features slipped from the Fx97 forecast shortly before merge to beta
- GPU Process Support on Android (slipped to Fx99). Crash reporting issues on Android currently holding this up. We’re coordinating with them on a solution.
- OffscreenCanvas Core Development (slipped to Fx98). Implementation is complicated by Chromes rollout. The issue here is that there are a number of js utility libraries available that check for the existence of OffscreenCanvas and then make assumptions about the backing contexts that are available. Our partial implementation (only WebGL) is running aground here . Team is investigating options of supporting 2D and bitmap. For now, we are disabling until we can formulate a path forward.
- WebGPU MVP (slipped to Fx99). Team is working through fuzzing coverage and needs more time.
- Credit card auto-fill rollout to UK, FR, and DE has been slipped.
- Firefox 98 Nightly
- Building out the feature list from Jira. Will have the Mana page live by EOD today.
SUMO Report
- Had a number of users while they did not change their lightwieght theme in FX 95 that FX is now applying a dark background to cntent as well as chrome areas.
- SUMO end of year report for those interested: https://mailchi.mp/mozilla/fx-desktop-2021-sumo-review (its very high level)
- Sumo Community thread for V96 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/715509?last=82695#post-82695
- generally the place where bugs/issues get listed by contributors when they come across them in the Desktop Forum.
