Engineering Highlights From Last Completed Sprint
Desktop
The Activty Stream ‘Apocalypse Now’ milestone ended June 11th. For a complete list of the issues resolved in the iteration please click HERE.
Our new iteration, ‘Bridge On the River Kwai' is running through June 25th, and details may be found HERE.
The Graduation Team has landed the about:newtab Preferences Pane, implemented performance telemetry, and made great progress toward making sure all existing Firefox about:newtab tests pass.
The MVP Team has built out controls for collapsing/expanding Sections, as well as landed the new ‘Recent Bookmarks’ section, which is shown below.
Because Activity Stream will be released on about:home as well as about:newtab, we need to support Snippets functionality as well as provide an interface to the Onboarding Tour, and Data (Profile) Migration. We have been working closely with these teams and are planning on having interfaces to this functionality in the Firefox 56 partial release to provide as much feedback as possible.
Lastly, Jennifer Davidson has completed the Activity Stream Diary Study, where she examined longer term use of Activity Stream over a number of days. This study focused on Pocket usage. We are really excited and happy about the RESULTS!
Android
- No new code landed. Development on hold per notes above.
iOS
As of Today (June 16th) we have now hit the Feature Complete milestone for Firefox for iOS V8.0, which is the delivery vehicle for the Activity Stream experience on iOS. The third beta build containing Activity Stream is now in TestFlight, and the team will continue to review feedback and make improvements as we approach the submission target of July 14th.
In the last sprint (1.23 ended June 11th) Farhan updated the context menu in the New Tab experience with new icons and a cooler blur. He also added initial support for pinning Top Sites to the New Tab page.
