Nonverbal Updates

Dan

  • Done with Fluent and Twin Cities Code Camp!
  • Fluent:
    • 2 Talks: Mobile Web Debugging workshop w/ Mike Taylor and a lightning talk on FxOS + Valence
    • Workshop on mobile web debugging was ok-but-not-great, mainly due to a last-minute format change by O'Reilly from workshop to 3.5-hour lecture :(
    • Valence is way more important than I had believed. About 10% of our class brought an iPhone and a Windows laptop. Valence is the only way to remote debug that.
    • A few folks had heard of FxOS, several questions about when it's coming to North America (and mainly surprise that it's available in retail elsewhere in the world -- clearly we didn't communicate that well.)
    • Potch was a master showman at the Mozilla booth; Oculus + Firefox stole the show... though it was hard making the connection to Mozilla for folks. "Cool Oculus, what's with the Firefox logos?"
      • Possibly an issue with the Rift being so new itself. People aren't familiar with it or its limitations.
  • Twin Cities Code Camp:
    • 2 Talks: Mobile Web Perf Debugging and Intro to Rust
    • Mobile web talk was good enough, but I really need to figure out how to make it pop more.
      • This is potentially a problem with my own enthusiasm for the subject. ;)
    • Rust talk was f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c. Absolutely packed room, tons of enthusiasm.
  • DevRel notes:
    • Lots of folks were impressed with the Fx tools ("haven't looked at those in a year; they've come a long way").
    • The little event bubbles in the Inspector were complimented several times ("Oh, I always have trouble finding what elements have events attached to them").

Dietrich

  • Tech Speakers pilot launched, initial meeting went off without a hitch
  • Also launched internal tech speaker micropilot with part of Firefox OS UX group.
  • Hacks post on Firefox OS animations, published today
  • More progress on FxOS animations patch, the Taipei UX team is finding app opening slow, but it might just be their build
  • IoT planning for Taipei and Tokyo weeks

Havi

  • Launched Moz Tech Speakers, Session 1. Great beginning session.
  • Invited Soumya Deb and Andrzej Mazur (unintended, he received an invite, although I hadn't submitted his name, not sure how this happened, but all is good)
  • Hacks calendar week of April 27: Firefox OS, Animations & the Dark Cubic Bezier...; Wifi debugging; Creating a mobile app from a simple HTML site: Part 3; jitsi post on WebRTC
  • Newsletter in progress

Potch

  • Sike!
  • Fluent was great- huge enthusiasm for the WebVR stuff
  • Working on wireframes for Hacks Blog redesign
    • Reaching out to Creative for some visual guidance
    • Will send around for bikeshedding
  • I'm MCing JSConf!
  • Working on some canned talk material / Content kits

Sole
