Description

The coordination committee of the Arabic Mozilla community is a rotating body that ensures a follow-up on the goals and action items decided by the community. The committee changes every quarter (three months), with a new chair appointed by vote.

Rotation Procedure & Selection Criteria

Each quarter, the Arabic Community holds a meeting to decide upon the next country to take on the committee chairmanship. The main criteria for the chair is availability and willingness to assume the extra responsibility. The chair will then select his/her team, according to the roles defined below (see section 4).

A note on the team:
The team must not be from the same country. The chair is encouraged to tap into the potential of all Arabic Mozilla community members when choosing his/her team.

Hand Over Checklist

To smooth the process, and make the rotation as quick and effective as possible, the previous committee must make sure to transmit the following to the next one:

  • Email alias password
  • Social media accounts information
  • Task board access

Responsibilities

The committee is responsible for a number of tasks, most importantly:

  • Arrange bi-weekly meeting: poll the best time, send reminders, post minutes + notes after the meeting is done.
  • Highlight community members: short articles highlighting outstanding contribution by community members. See Bonjour Mozilla and Rep of the month for reference.
  • Follow-up on action items identified during the meetup: action plan available here.
  • Write a report at the end of quarter: the report should include an overview of the work done during the quarter, lessons learned and best practices to share with the next committee.
  • Keep the website up to date: this include making sure Mozilla press releases & Mozilla official blog posts are translated to Arabic. The communication lead (see section 4.4 below) should reach out to contributors to write and translate articles on the website.
  • Manage the social media accounts: this includes Facebook page and Twitter account of the Arabic Mozilla community.
  • Respond to emails: only those directed to the alias.
  • Making sure that we progress on all functions for Arabic specific items
  • Making sure the Mozilla style guide is respected on all external communication channels.

Roles

In order to function properly, the committee has to include different roles. Although the chair is encouraged to be creative in building his/her coordination committee, the following are considered the minimum requirements. It is preferable that one person only assumes one role at a time.

Chair

The chair is voted by the community during a meeting. He/She selects and oversees the whole committee.

Localization Lead

The localization lead must ensure translations of articles and content into Arabic. He/She should be able to either perform that himself/herself or mobilize contributors to do so.

Development Lead

The development lead oversees all development projects within the community, particularly the Arabic Mozilla website.

Communication Lead

The communication lead deals with external public relations for the community. This includes managing social media accounts, and more importantly, spotting outstanding achievements by community members to highlight them to the global Mozilla.

Design & Style Guide Guru

The design lead puts together a repository of assets and makes sure the community uses it. He/She must also be aware of changes in the Mozilla Style Guide and communicate them back to the community.

Current Committee

The current committee, composed of the members listed below, will chair from the 19th of November 2014 until the 19th of February 2015.

CHAIR - Rami Khader (Jordan)

Meetings

The meeting to determine the first coordination committee will be held during the week of November 9th, 2014. More info can be found here.
