Project Huma: Background

Project Huma covers the series of tasks on the Firefox product site between the December 2010 visual refresh and the Firefox 4 launch later in Q1. (What's Huma?)

The overall idea is that the visual refresh is the beginning of the project rather than the end (as has been the case with past refreshes). The list below details a series of projects that are needed to get the site ready for Firefox 4. Once we've confirmed the available resources, we should group these into a series of bi-weekly releases. Note: this page only covers changes to the core product site...does not include other work on mozilla.org or tasks specific to upcoming marketing campaigns.

The following projects are listed in rough chronological order.

Release Calendar

This is subject to change, but the current release schedule looks like this:

  • 1.0 (newsletter fixes, post-launch cleanup, misc bugs) - 1/11/11
  • 1.1 (revised header, newsletter tweaks on FR/WN, misc bugs) - 1/25/11
  • 1.2 (HTML5 enhancements, other bugs TBD) - 2/8/11
  • 1.3 (HTML5 enhancements, other bugs TBD) - 2/22/11
  • 1.4 (Fx4 content, download counter, other launch-specific bugs) - whenever Fx4 launches
  • 1.5 (www.mozilla.org and www.mozilla.org merge -- will be spread out over several releases but all issues in this bucket for now) - after Fx4 launches

    • need to smooth over any usability issues caused by the common header

Dynamic Content

  • Targeting proof of concept
    • address visitors in a customized way based on feature adoption - addons, personas, sync, mobile, etc. Determine which targeting options are most viable and test initial capabilities (pending privacy and technical limitations from within the browser).

  • Develop JS library for embedding on external site pages
    • Easy to use js lib that, when included, can be pointed at an empty div to populate it based on env variables
